The emergency department is located at the east end of the hospital. It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
For after hours emergency service you can go to Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital (Collaborative Emergency Centre) in Musquodoboit Harbour, Colchester hospital in Truro, Cobequid Community Health Centre in Sackville, Dartmouth General Hospital or the QEII.

To access the mental health mobile crisis team call 902-429-8167 or toll-free at 1-888-429-8167. This is a 24 hour, seven days a week phone service to help you or your loved one cope with mental health and addiction challenges in the moment.

Visitors are welcome throughout the day except during a rest period between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Free public WiFi.
We make every effort to make sure your stay with us is as comfortable as possible. Room placement is based upon availability and medical need. If you have private health insurance and request a private room, we may be able to accommodate your request.
The cost of a private froom is $175 per day. This includes one bed, one washroom and a private telephone.
When you are admitted, be sure to have your private insurance card with you and let the admitting clerk know you have requested a private room.
TV and Phone in your Room
Wall mounted TV services are available in your room. If you wish to use these services, you will be charged $4 per day for local cable
During your stay in hospital, you have the option of activating your bedside telephone service. The cost is $10 per stay. To place a local call, you must dial ‘9’ before the number. If you wish to make long distance calls you must use a calling card
During your stay, you will receive breakfast, lunch and supper daily. The kitchen staff will collect your order daily and provide fresh cooked meals based upon the diet ordered by your doctor.

Hours of operation:
Daily: 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Family meals can be purchased with advance notice. If you want to place an order for supper, you must order it before 3:30 p.m.
Spiritual Spaces and Quiet Rooms
There is a patient/family lounge within the inpatient area that can be used as a quiet space for families or for spiritual care. Check with nursing staff for availability. Requests for spiritual care can be made by patients or family members at anytime.
Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital serves a population of approximately 5,000 people between the communities Dean Settlement, Meaghers Grant, Dutch Settlement and surrounding communities. The Braeside Nursing Home is attached to the hospital.
