Nova Scotia Health Authority launches renewed Healthier Together strategic plan

HALIFAX, N.S. – Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) has renewed its strategic plan, Healthier Together.

The plan will continue to guide NSHA’s actions and decisions over the next three years (2019-2022), providing direction on priorities and allocation of resources as we work to achieve our vision of healthy people, healthy communities – for generations.

New to the plan are three revised strategic directions: our services, our people and our communities. The updated version of Healthier Together can be viewed on our website at

With the previous strategic plan set to expire this year, NSHA underwent an engagement process from January through April, which included input from employees, physicians, volunteers, learners, partners, stakeholders and other members of the public from across the province. We gathered and analyzed feedback to validate NSHA’s values and enhance our strategic directions.

“We all have a role to play in bringing NSHA’s plan to life,” NSHA president and CEO Janet Knox said. “Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide valuable input on our renewed strategic directions.”

Some of what we learned and is now reflected in Healthier Together includes:

  •  Strong support for existing values: respect, integrity, courage, innovation and accountability.
  • Three revised strategic directions that are clear and concise that reflect the population and care we provide across the province: our services, our people and our communities.
  • Assurance that NSHA is living its values through action and accountability – to each other and the people we serve.
  •  Continued focus on building and strengthening relationships and partnerships with others to improve the health of all Nova Scotians.

“We now have a plan that captures feedback from across Nova Scotia, as well as those who work so diligently to provide high-quality health care and services for everyone,” Knox said. “We are confident that this plan will continue to guide the work we do each and every day, at all of our sites and in all of our communities for many years to come.”
