(VIDEO - 3:55) When I climb out
Students with the Guysborough Academy Jack.org chapter conceived the idea: develop an original music video and song aimed at addressing the stigma around mental health.
Jack.org is a national organization of passionate student leaders who want to reshape the way we perceive and address our mental health. The chapter students, with funding from the Guysborough, Antigonish and Strait Area Community Health Board Wellness Funds and some additional support from Primary Health Care and Public Health Services, made the video came to life, launching on June 25.
The goal of the video is to reach communities across Nova Scotia, with an emphasis on highlighting resource services available in the Guysborough, Antigonish and Strait areas and promoting self-care strategies.
The music for the video is an original song written by music therapist Tom Curry. Video participants included people from Guysborough and Antigonish Counties as well as the eastern portion of Cape Breton. The film was co-ordinated by NSHA staff members Leona Purcell, Lorraine Brymer, Laurie Smith and Tiffany Peeples. Corinne Dunphy filmed and edited the video.
